The Believer : FAQ

1. How do I order a Believer subscription online?
You can subscribe to the Believer by clicking the Subscribe link under the Believer section on the left side of our home page, or by clicking the Believer button on the top of the site. You'll be asked to set up an account—this will enable you to manage your subscription, change your address, update your email address, things like that.Be sure to write down your username and password for future reference.

2. How do I order a gift subscription?
You can order a gift subscription to the Believer by clicking the Subscribe link under the Believer section on the left side of our home page, or by clicking the Believer button on the top of the site. During the ordering process, you'll be asked to set up an account for the recipient, so create a login and password that they can use later. Make sure to put their shipping address in the shipping field and your address in the billing field. At the end of the ordering process, you'll have a chance to send them an email letting them know they've been given a gift.

3. I’d like to send in my address and payment for my subscription. Where should I send this stuff?

Please make checks out to The Believer.

5. How do I change my address?
If you have an online account, you can log in to your account by clicking on the CUSTOMER LOGIN button in the upper-right-hand corner of our online store (http://store.mcsweeneys.net/). Once you’ve signed in, you can change your address, login info, email address, etc.

If you ordered your subscription through the mail, or are unable to access your online account, email us at customer@believermag.com and we can help you with your account.

Please let us know of any address changes as soon as you can—we want to make sure your issues get to you and not to the person now living at your old address.

6. How many issues do I get with my Believer subscription?
The Believer is a monthly magazine with double issues in December/January and June/July, so with a one-year subscription you’ll receive ten issues. The Dec/Jan double issue includes a DVD of short films and animation, and the June/ July double issue includes a CD of songs by awesome bands and musicians.

7. How long should I expect to wait for the Believer to arrive every month?
Usually, the Believer arrives during the first week of the month. If you’re overseas, it could take up to four weeks to arrive.

8. I sent in my renewal card with payment but haven’t received my magazine or confirmation. What’s happening?
Please allow 4-6 weeks for us to process your renewal. If it’s been longer than six weeks, please contact us (customer@believermag.com) to double check.

9. A link is broken! I can't subscribe! What do I do?
If you’re unable to order online, we suggest closing and restarting your web browser. If that doesn’t work, email us: customer@believermag.com

10. When I got to the end of my order, after I put in my credit card, I received an ERROR notice. What should I do?
Please make sure to only click the ORDER button once. Hitting it multiple times can cause the order system to get fussy. If you think something went wrong, please notify customer service (customer@believermag.com) right away and we’ll make sure your order is all set.

11. I’ve been a subscriber for a while and just recently set up an online account. My account does not show my current subscription even though I have one. Why is that?
If you are a lifetime subscriber, or ordered through the mail or over the phone, your account was set up by McSweeney’s admin. That means it’s not accessible through the front end of the store. Your subscription exists, though, and all address changes and questions about your account can be sent to customer service: customer@believermag.com.

12. How much does it cost to ship a subscription overseas?
Depending on where you live and which subscription you choose, overseas shipping ranges from $20-$85. We ship USPS.

13. I have an APO address. Can I still subscribe?
We have APO and FPO options in our STATE drop-down menu.

14. My copy of the most recent issue is damaged. Can you send me a new one?
Yes, usually we can. Please send your concern to customer@believermag.com.

15. How do I check to see if my subscription has expired?
If you originally ordered online, just go to the store site (http://store.mcsweeneys.net/) and log in. You’ll find all your subscription information there.

If you subscribed through the mail, please email us at customer@believermag.com and we'll let you know the status of your subscription.

16. Why can't I track my Believer subscription?
We ship the Believer USPS media mail or priority mail, neither of which includes tracking.

17. Where can I buy copies of the magazine?
You can buy most of the back issues online from us in our online store. We also have back issue bundles available for each year the Believer has been published.

18. Do you keep credit cards on file?
No, we don’t.
