The Forgetters will someday be a probably-overlong novel by Dave Eggers; when the whole thing will be finished is anyone’s guess. But in the meantime, we’re releasing standalone, short-story-sized portions of the book as beautiful mini hardcovers. Each minibook is a complete short story, independent of the eventual whole. The series began with The Museum of Rain, a moving testament to family, memory, and what we leave behind—and has continued ever since with six titles to date.

Sanrevelle
A man named Hop, not too young and not too old, lives in a sinking skyscraper and works for a personal-injury lawyer who’s slowly losing his mind. Every day Hop stares out at the tiny boats on the San Francisco Bay, wanting to be there and not filing paperwork for a cloistered madman. Finally Hop goes to a rickety dock by the sea, seeking sailing lessons. He meets the singular Sanrevelle, a barefoot captain, who leads him out of the blight and into a life of speed and cold and light.
